Robert Mendez, M.D
Robert Mendez, M.D., F.A.C.S., Professor of Urology and Surgery, USC School of Medicine; President, National Institute of Transplantation (NIT); President and Chairman of the Board, Onelegacy a transplant donor network; and past President, United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). Research interests involve crossing the ABO blood barriers as a preliminary step towards Xenography; the use of porcine islet cells in Type 1 diabetics in encapsulated formulations, the role of histocompatibility in allograft survival, and the development of tolerance in organ transplantation. He also serves on the Board of the University of Southern California School of Law, Center for Medical Ethics and the Law. He is a member, and has been president of numerous urological and transplant societies.
